Why do people get judgmental? If I talk about religion I am religious fanatic. If I say I like that gay couple in modern family Cameron and Mitchell, it means I' am against God? If I talk to a married male friend of mine, who by the way is my best friend, it means I'm having an affair??? If I have no problem with a Christian married to another religion person Am I a sinner. And then I'm accused to be modern. I'm seriously confused now... Previously when someone says I am modern. I used to take it as a compliment. But recently when one of my friends called me modern I felt as if I was accused.
I have a really interesting variety of friends. As a matter of fact I can’t say they are all normal. Hello!! It does'nt mean they are abnormal (now don't get judgmental :P) From shopaholic no no no alcoholic ;p but a crazy movie buff. From a self made man, a fully dependent girl. A person obsessed about marriage to someone who hates marriage. A father who behaves like he is 4,a girl who behave like a mother to all. May be because of all these interesting people in my life I am what I am today. I don't judge people by their attire. Neither their choice of partners. I know the importance of marriage but I don't say you have to stick to marriage if you are having a bad one. It doesn't mean I support divorce.
All these questions arose when I had a conversation with one of my friend after 15 years who by the way is from my native. We were talking about friendship, marriage, divorce, religion almost all the topics under the sun. I would like a share a few lines of our conversation.
me: I feel marriage is greater than friendship
Friend of mine: yeah
me: my friend is going through a divorce
I understand
Friend of mine: Christian??
me: I tried telling him and convincing but he is a nut
Friend of mine: is he/she a Christian??
me: yeah he is a Christian and his wife Hindu
Friend of mine: that is the biggest mistake
How can a Christian marry a Hindu??
That is a blunder anybody can do
me: Why not ? but in this scenario both are suffocating in a bad marriage .Its better to get separated than making each others life difficult .. But I’m only worried about their daughter
Friend of mine: don’t let him call himself a Christian
We all with such behaviors bring shame to the name of our lord
me: ( what's wrong with him) Don’t worry he doesn’t call himself that
Friend of mine: good
I know you are modern
me: ( why is he accusing) no I’m not modern
Friend of mine: You are dear

me: ( what ever) yeah when u live in a metropolitan for almost 10 years work with diff people, see diff things u tend to become broad minded
Friend of mine: That is the reason I said you are modern
me: If thinking like that is modern then I am modern.
Don’t you feel I was accused of being modern?
Good one! And very true that people tend to associate being 'modern' with just being more open and supportive of people's choices without judging them ..Well, you can only try to explain to people like these !! Good post..Loved it :)
ReplyDelete@natasha... Thanks babe.. :D I was actually disturbed after this chat. Few people have a really weird way of thinking and they tend to get judgmental. hmmm hope my post is not controversial.
ReplyDeletenahh..it's not controversial at all..I am sure a lot of people are in the same shoes as well..:) They would be able to relate to the post!
ReplyDeleteThanks babe :D
ReplyDeleteYour friend makes 'modern' sound almost criminal!
